Autumn in Curry County

Autumn is many people’s favorite season. There is a slight chill starting to form in the air, leaves start changing glorious shades of gold, orange, and burgundy, and, of course, pumpkin spice everything starts appearing in stores and coffee shops everywhere.

This is also one of the best times of year to get out and enjoy the last bits of good weather before the storms and bluster of winter keep us tucked safely inside for a few months.

Here are some senior-friendly activity ideas in the Curry County area:

Support youth sports.
It is much more exciting to play sports when the stands are packed full of people cheering for you! High school and middle school sports teams play games frequently, and showing up gives you a chance to root, root, root for the home team while making kids feel special. You can even volunteer for teams if you want to get a bit more involved.

Trick or Treat!
Kids love trick or treating! Decorate your house and pass out candy, and enjoy the creative costumes the children wear.

Take a drive upriver.
All of our local riverbanks are lined with trees that are in the process of changing color right now, and just about every river also has a road that winds along beside it. Go for an afternoon drive, and even have a picnic somewhere along the riverbank to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.

Enjoy the sunset while drinking mulled cider.
Few things taste more like fall than mulled apple cider. Here is a fun recipe to try: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/bobby-flay/mulled-cider-recipe-1943275
